Sabine Schaschl

Sabine Schaschl (* 1967 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian art historian and curator of exhibitions on contemporary art and classical modernism. She is the director of the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich .

Career

Sabine Schaschl studied art history from 1988 to 1996 at the University of Vienna. From 1995 to 1996 she was a research assistant at the “6. Triennial Small Sculpture. Europe - East Asia ”, from 1996 to 1997 in the same position at the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Vienna . In 1997 she was the Austrian curator of the 2nd Biennale in Cetinje / Montenegro and from 2000 to 2003 freelance curator (Living and working in Vienna / Kunsthalle Wien; Urban Diaries: Young Swiss Art).

From 1999 to 2001 Sabine Schaschl headed the Shed in Eisenwerk, Frauenfeld , from 2001 to 2013 the Kunsthaus Baselland in Muttenz , and since 2013 she has been director and chief curator at the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich.

In her exhibitions she deals with socially relevant topics ( Dada different , On the Metaphor of Growth , Cooling Out: On the Paradox of Feminism ). In solo exhibitions she presents internationally known artists such as u. a. William Kentridge, Etel Adnan, Cerith Wyn Evans, Marlow Moss, Tomás Saraceno, Alicja Kwade, Carlos Bunga, Omer Fast, Javier Téllez , Laurent Grasso and Gal Weinstein .

Schaschl belongs to numerous juries and commissions in Switzerland and abroad. Since 2014 she has been a member of the Art Commission City of Zurich Culture - Fine Arts, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Christina Spoerri Foundation in Reinach / Basel. She is the author and editor of scientific publications on contemporary art.

She has received several awards for her curatorial work, including a. 2013 the Award Landis & Gyr, London, 2010 the Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres , Republic of France, 2009 the Federal Prize for Art Spaces, Federal Office of Culture , Bern and 2007 the Swiss Art Award: Federal Prize for Art and Art Art education, Federal Office for Culture, Bern.
