Zurich Art Prize

The Zurich Art Prize is an art prize that has been awarded annually by the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich together with the Zurich Insurance Group since 2007.

history

The “Zurich Art Prize” was launched in 2007 by Museum Haus Konstruktiv under its director Dorothea Strauss and the museum's patron partner, the Zurich Insurance Group. It is aimed at artists who have already established a position in the art discourse and who support the cultural legacy of constructive - concrete artas represented by the awarding museum, further developed with new contemporary, conceptual tendencies. The prize money was SFr. 80,000, which were used for a solo exhibition in the Museum Haus Konstruktiv and an exhibition catalog. Since 2017 the price has been based on a production budget of SFr. 80,000 for a solo exhibition with publication in the Museum Haus Konstruktiv and a prize sum of SFr. 20,000 together. The art prize is internationally recognized, it is awarded every year within the framework of Art Basel .

Selection process

The Museum Haus Konstruktiv invites six curators, critics and art experts each year to propose an artist for the award. A jury will select the winner from among these nominees. In 2017 the jury included Sabine Schaschl, Director Museum Haus Konstruktiv (Chair), Rolf Staub (Zurich Insurance Group Ltd), Jacqueline Burckhardt , (Art magazine Parkett), Roland Wetzel (Director Tinguely Museum, Basel), Rein Wolfs , Artistic and Exhibition Hall Artistic Director Federal Republic of Germany and Beat Zoderer (artist, Zurich).
