At the bottom it is split into rings that can be toothed or with entire margins. The Perigonzipfel measure 15–35 × 5–11 millimeters and are pointed to blunt. They are colored pale yellow to orange-yellow, more rarely creamy white. Sometimes their outside is striped or overflowing with purple or bronze tones.

The small crocus occurs in the Balkans, in south-east Romania and in south, central and north-west Turkey. The species grows on short-grass, dry slopes, in open coniferous forests and in bushes at altitudes from 0 to 2200 meters.

use

The small crocus has been a cultivated plant since around 1841. It is widely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and borders, such as cultivars and hybrids with Crocus aerius and subspecies of the two- flowered crocus in different colors.
