The scented autumn crocus is an autumn / spring green, perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of 7 to 16 centimeters. The stylus is dreiästig, the branches are sometimes divided. The flowers smell strongly. The throat is deep yellow and has light hair on top.

The flowering period extends from October to November.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Occurrence

The scented autumn crocus occurs in southern Italy , Sicily and Malta . The species grows in dry rock grass on mostly calcareous subsoil.

use

The scented autumn crocus is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. The species has been in culture since 1843 at the latest.
