Cromeria is a genus of very small African freshwater fish from the family of slender fish (Kneriidae). Of the two species of the genus, the type species Cromeria nilotica livesin the upper White Nile in South Sudan and western Ethiopia and Cromeria occidentalis in West Africa in the upper and middle Niger , the Benue and the Upper Volta , and in other rivers from Guinea and Mali to Cameroon and Chad.

Cromeria species are very small, neotenene , transparent and elongated fish with a spindle-shaped shape. They are 2.9 and 4.4 centimeters long. Your mouth is protraktil (extendable). They are scaly and have no lateral line organ on the trunk. However, Cromeria occidentalis has channels of a sensory system on its head. The short dorsal fin is located on the back of the body, the pelvic fins are directly below their insertion ( C. occidentalis ) or clearly in front of it ( C. nilotica ).
