The family of slender fish (Kneriidae) comprises five genera and 31 species (including the African mudfish ( Phractolaemus ansorgii )). It belongs to the order of the sandfish-like (Gonorynchiformes) and occurs mainly in the tropical areas of Africa south of the equator , as well as in the Nile , Benue , Volta and Dja .
features
Slender fish have an elongated, spindle-shaped shape and are 2 to 19 centimeters long. Your mouth is more or less subordinate , the upper jaw protractile (extendable). Kneria and Parakneria have cycloid scales and a lateral line organ , while the neotene Cromeria and Grasseichthys are transparent and flaky and also have no lateral line organ.
