Styrsö is an island and a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland . The place is located in Gothenburg's southern archipelago and is part of the Västra Gothenburg district . The name "Styrsö" is derived from the old- west Norse styrir , which means ship commander and was used around 1300 in the name Styrisø for the island.
There are three ports for passenger ferries on the island (Bratten, Tången, Skäret). The ferries are operated by Styrsöbolaget on behalf of Västtrafik . There is also the cargo and fishing port of Sandviken in the north and the recycling port in the south of the island.
There is a bridge between the islands of Styrsö and Donsö , and there are regular ferry connections to Saltholmen .
