The Crooked River ( Montagnais name: Nipissiu-shipiss ) is a 58 km long left tributary of the Naskaupi River in Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Crooked River forms the outflow of the 242  m high Nipishish Lake (alternative name: Nipississ). It flows mainly in a southerly direction. It has numerous rapids. It eventually meets the Naskaupi River, 1.6 miles above its confluence with Grand Lake . The catchment area of the Crooked River covers 2391 km². In the area through which the water flows, there are forests of black pine and balsam fir .

Fish fauna

The following species of fish are found in the Crooked River system. Catostomus commersonii (white sucker), Catostomus Catostomus (longnose sucker), brook trout , Arctic char , Atlantic salmon (fresh water form Ouananiche).
