history

The place was named after GJ Crosby, a railway construction engineer. The first resident was Charlie Karcher, of German descent in 1865, who opened a general store or trading post here.

The French company Arkema operates a chemical plant about five kilometers northeast of the center of Crosby, which, among other things, produces organic peroxides . At the end of August 2017, the plant was flooded as a result of the effects of Hurricane Harvey . The employees and residents were evacuated. On August 31, two explosions occurred, caused by the interruption of the power supply to the cooling of a production plant. The water in the plant was almost two meters high. The evacuation zone had a radius of 1.5 miles. The plant has 57 employees (as of August 2017).
