Cults is an American indie pop duo from New York founded by Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin . Your debut celebrated Cults with their 2011 published by Itno / Columbia Records album of the same name.

history

The formation "Cults" was founded by Brian Oblivion (real name Ryan Mattos) and Madeline Follin in 2010 while studying in New York City. The two met in 2009 at a concert by the Willowz group (feat. Follin's brother Richie James Follin ), for which Brian Oblivion was the tour manager. While Brian Oblivion fronting a Slayer - cover band acted, Madeline Follin gained as a singer at a young age the first experiences. Her stepfather Paul Kostabi (co-founder of White Zombie ) had her sing a cover piece by the Adolescents while recording his band Youth Gone Mad , which brought her the first offer of a record deal at the age of nine.

Cults released their first EP on Forest Family Records, Cults'' with the song Go Outside . This was followed by a six-month tour supporting the Richie Follins Group before the duo signed with ITNO / Sony.

In In the Name of , the label of the singer Lily Allen , and Columbia Records in 2011 and produced their eponymous debut album by Shane Stoneback appeared. Also in 2011, Cults and Superhuman Happiness released a cover of the song Um Canto De Afoxé para o Bloco Do Ilê on the album Red Hot + Rio2 for the charity Red Hot Organization . Just like the previous album Red Hot + Rio , which was released in 1996, the proceeds from the album support AIDS projects.

After the release of their first album, appearances followed, e.g. B. at the festivals ATP I'll be your Mirror, ATP Nightmare before Christmas and 2012 her first own US tour.

In 2013 her second album Static was released , again on Columbia Records. Madeline Follin can also be heard on the 2014 soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch's film Only Lovers Left Alive .
