Vitkov Curia
The Curia Vitkov until 2007 Wothanburg called, is a archaeological open-air museum in the district Horní Vítkov of Chrastava in Czech Republic . It is located southeast of the village Horní Vítkov, opposite the Výhledy (Gickelsberg, 569 m) on the summit of the Vítkovský kopec (Wittigberg, 503 m) above the valley of the Vítkovský potok.
The wooden complex, which has been erected since 1999, is a free replica of an early medieval fortified landed aristocratic residence with a craftsmen's settlement from the 12th and 13th centuries. It was created without a specific historical model and was modeled on the typical forms of fortified manor houses in Bohemia, Moravia and Upper Lusatia from the second half of the 12th to the beginning of the 13th century. Basis formed u. a. the facilities found during excavations in Chvojen near Benešov , Týnec nad Sázavou , Vroutek , Bedřichův Světec and Kundratice .
The complex is surrounded by a rampart with 2.5 m high wooden palisades of the “Polský plot” type. A 6 m high timbered gate tower leads inside. The rear gate at the other end of the fortification leads into the craftsmen's settlement. It is planned to build a Romanesque gallery church based on the model of the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in Mohelnice nad Jizerou .
The organization is run by the Liberec- based association "Curia Vitkov os". It was founded in 1999 under the name "Občanské sdružení Wothanburg" and changed its name on March 1, 2007. Vitkov Curia is used for medieval events. There are u. a. Summer camps, medieval handicraft demonstrations and historical fencing spectacles held. Outside of the events, the facility is not open to the public.
