Curt Beilschmidt

Curt Ludwig Hermann Beilschmidt (born March 20, 1886 in Magdeburg , † March 7, 1962 in Leipzig ) was a German composer .

Family and life

His family can be traced back to 1750. His father allegedly owned a sugar factory in Magdeburg . Numerous musicians are represented in his family. His grandfather was already a musician and his cousin was Kapellmeister in Wilhelmshaven . His uncle, the trumpeter Friedrich Christian Karl Beilschmidt, went to Holland in 1872 and played "Schutterij" in the band. The North Holland Philharmonic Orchestra (Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest) later emerged from this band , which is known far beyond Haarlem .

Beilschmidt studied at the conservatory in Leipzig from 1905 to 1909 and then went to Brussels . Returned to Leipzig, he taught theory and piano at the conservatory and later worked at the Leipzig Music Academy (1946–1956).
