Curtis Gedig (born September 14, 1991 in Penticton , British Columbia ) is a Canadian / German ice hockey player who is under contract with the Kassel Huskies .
Career
Gedig played in the junior division of the British Columbia Hockey League before moving to Ohio State University in 2010 . There he completed a sports degree and played for four years for the university's ice hockey team. For the past two years he has been team captain for the Buckeyes . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the seventh round in a total of 204th place by the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League .
After the step into professionalism, Gedig completed 30 games for the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL in the 2014/15 season , scoring three goals and 14 assists. In June 2015 he signed a one-year contract with the Norwegian first division club Stjernen . In Norway he immediately made a name for himself as an attacking defender. In 49 games of the season for Stjernen Gedig had 26 goals and 29 assists. This made him the second top scorer in the Norwegian league. To support the club in its efforts to persuade the Canadian to extend his contract, the Stjernen supporters raised money, but the effort did not pay off in the end. Gedig decided to move to Switzerland and signed a two-year contract with EHC Olten from the National League B (NLB) in March 2016 . After the 2016/17 season, however, the contract was terminated because Gedig played no role in the plans of the Swedish coach Bengt-Åke Gustafsson , who took over the position during the course of the season.
In June 2017, the Norwegian first division club Stavanger Oilers announced Gedig's commitment. At the end of May 2018 he was signed by the Fischtown Pinguins and switched to the German Ice Hockey League . In August 2019, his current contract was terminated due to a failed medical examination; in December 2019, the Kassel Huskies signed him.
