Cus D'Amato

Constantine "Cus" D'Amato (born January 17, 1908 in the Bronx , New York City , New York , † November 4, 1985 in Catskill , New York ) was an American boxing coach. He is known as the inventor of the peek-a-boo boxing style .

D'Amato was born in 1908 in the New York working class borough of the Bronx. He opened his first boxing studio, Gramercy Gym , on 14th Street in Manhattan in 1939 . Cus D'Amato was a master of the ring technique. He promoted the careers of light heavyweight champion José Torres and heavyweights Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson . He worked as an informal advisor to Muhammad Ali , Gerry Cooney and countless other boxers. D'Amato also trained various other good coaches such as Teddy Atlas , Joey Fariello and Kevin Rooney . Cus D'Amato died of pneumonia in 1985, a good year before his last boxer, Mike Tyson, became the youngest world heavyweight champion of all time at the age of 20 years and 144 days. Online marathon in memory of Cus D'Amato

From October 26, 2017 to November 4, 2017, the international project “Science of Victory” took place in the form of an online marathon in memory of Cus D'Amato. Speakers from Russia , Ukraine , Italy , Spain , Germany and the USA took part in this project. The speakers were important figures in the world of professional and amateur boxing, from journalists from leading boxing magazines to the masters in boxing, including boxing world champion Silvio Branco , world champion and Olympic champion in boxing Patrizio Oliva , absolute world champion in kickboxing semen Poskotin , columnist for the " Wall Street Journal " Gordon Marino and others.

Everyone shared their thoughts on the phenomenon D'Amato and his success, which is unique to this day, that under his leadership and guidance three world champions have been produced. The reason for the implementation of the marathon was the work on the book “Non-compromised Pendulum” (German: uncompromising pendulum ) about the extraordinary “peek-a-boo” style of Cus D'Amatos.
