Cyle Larin (born April 17, 1995 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian football player .

Career

youth

Larin is from Brampton, Ontario and attended St. Edmund Campion High School there. He was the school team's top scorer three times in a row. While still at school, he attended the private soccer school of the Canadian club Sigma FC. During this time he also trained again and again, as part of exchange programs, with various European clubs, such as B. Werder Bremen , Hertha BSC and VfL Wolfsburg in Germany or at KRC Genk and FC Brugge in Belgium.

In 2013 he finished his training at Sigma and moved to the University of Connecticut , where he played for the local college team Connecticut Huskies. In his first year he scored 14 goals in 23 games, making him the sixth most successful goalscorer in the entire NCAA season. He was named one of the best young players. In 2014 he was considered one of the best players in the MLS SuperDraft . However, he did not sign a Generation Adidas with Major League Soccer before the draft and was therefore only set for the 2015 draft, for which he was considered the second best college player. So he attended the University of Connecticut for another year and played again for Sigma FC during the break of the college season. The team was playing their first season in the newly formed League1 Ontario and Larin scored four goals in five games here.

On January 8, 2015, Larin signed a Generation Adidas contract with the MLS. He took part in the MLS SuperDraft and decided against offers from Europe. He was selected by Orlando City , making him the first Canadian to be selected as the first player in an MLS draft.

Orlando City

He made his debut for Orlando City on March 21, 2015 . He was substituted on in the game against the Vancouver Whitecaps . On April 12, 2015, he scored his first goal in the MLS.

National team

Before his first invitation to a training camp for the Canadian national soccer team , he did not play a game for a youth national team in Canada. Due to his achievements at the University of Connecticut, he was invited by the Canadian national coach Benito Floro in January 2014 to a training camp for the national team in Florida. In May 2014, Larin took part in another training camp. Two friendlies took place in Austria at the same time. So he made his debut on May 23, 2014 in the game against Bulgaria . He was substituted on in the second half.

On January 5, 2015, he was nominated for the Canadian U-20 selection . With the team he took part in the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Jamaica . He made his debut for the junior selection on January 10, 2015 in the first group game against Haiti.

In March 2015 he played again for the senior team and scored his first international goal in the friendly against Puerto Rico .
