description
Cylindropuntia santamaria grows as a creeping or climbing overgrown shrub with non-sloping branches and reaches heights of 0.3 to 1.5 meters. On the gray-green or yellowish or reddish tinged, 9 to 15 centimeters long and 3 to 4.5 centimeters in diameter shoot sections, there are clearly recognizable humps, which often stand together in eight to nine ribs. The light yellow areoles turn gray with age and wear 1 to 2 millimeters long inconspicuous glochids , of which a few are often gray and bristle-like. The 20 to 26 thorns are present on all areoles. They are more or less orange-brown to gray or dark brown and 1.5 to 2.5 inches long. Their sheaths are white.
The greenish sulfur-yellow flowers have to bloom cladding pink midrib. The round to barrel-shaped, tan to light gray fruits are dry and thorny or not thorny. They are 1.6 to 2.8 inches long and 1.4 to 2.1 inches in diameter.
