Cymus claviculus is a bug fromthe Cymidae family .

features

The bugs are 3.5 to 4.8 millimeters long, making them the smallest representatives of their genus in Central Europe. The distinction from the other species in the genus is not easy. The cymus claviculus can be identified by the narrow, dotted band near the seam between the corium and clavium on the hemielytras . In all other species of the genus, the corium is completely spotted.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed in Europe from the northern Mediterranean region to central Scandinavia and further east to Siberia and across Asia Minor to the Caucasus . It is widespread and common in Central Europe and colonizes moist and dry, open habitats.

Way of life

The animals live mainly on rush plants (Juncaceae) such as B. on bulky rush ( Juncus squarrosus ), toad rush ( Juncus bufonius ) or platthalm rush ( Juncus compressus ). Rarely, they are also found on the sour grass family (Cyperaceae), such as B. Sedges ( Carex ). The nymphs suckle on the stems of the plants. Hibernation takes place as adult animals on sandy soils in dry leaf litter under heather ( Calluna vulgaris ) or under loose bark on trunks and off of the food crops.
