Cynthia Bourgeault

Cynthia Bourgeault (born March 13, 1947 in West Chester , Pennsylvania ) is an American priestess of the Episcopal Anglican Church , teacher of Christian contemplation , doctor of medieval studies and musicology , international speaker and author.

Career

In addition to her academic training at the University of Pennsylvania and Ohio State University , she studied for seven years at a school of the Fourth Way (or "esoteric Christianity") according to GI Gurdjieff and also dealt intensively with Sufism , Tibetan Buddhism and other mystical things Traditions of the East.

Cynthia Bourgeault is committed to interspiritual and interreligious dialogue and is one of the leading teachers of the practice of gathering prayer (or centering prayer ) according to Thomas Keating , Bruno Barnhart and Richard Rohr , with whom she has worked closely for many years.

She was a founding director of the Aspen Wisdom School and the Contemplative Society near Vancouver, Canada, where she worked as a teacher and consultant for many years, and is a member of the GPIW (Global Peace Initiative for Women) Contemplative Council.

Cynthia Bourgeault has written numerous articles for international trade magazines, such as Parabola Magazine and Gnosis Magazine , as well as around a dozen books on contemplative practice and the Christian wisdom tradition.

In 2014 she received the Contemplative Voices Award from the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation.
