Cynthia Enloe (born July 16, 1938 in New York City ) is an American political scientist , lecturer and author .

Life

Enloe received a bachelor's degree from Connecticut College in New London in June 1960 and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1967. There she completed her doctorate in December 1967. Since 1972 she has been a professor at the Institute for International Development, Community and Environment at Clark University in Worcester , Massachusetts, where she has since served as head of the Chair of Political Science and as Director of Studies for Women Studies. Enloe is also on the editorial board of academic journals such as the International Feminist Journal of Politics .

She is regarded as a representative of feminist perspectives in international relations .

Publications

In the course of her life, Enloe wrote 14 books. Her best-known work is Bananas, Beaches and Bases , which is considered a pioneering contribution to feminist theories of international relations.
