Cyril Barlow (born January 22, 1889 in Newton Heath , † unknown) was an English football player .

Career

Barlow joined Manchester United in July 1914 on an amateur basis from the renowned amateur club Northern Nomads , which had recently been in the final of the FA Amateur Cup . However, he did not sign a professional contract until December 1919 after his return from the First World War, during which he had served in France. His debut in the Football League First Division on February 7, 1920 against Sunderland AFC was followed by another six appearances on the defensive position, mostly at the side of Jack Silcock as a replacement for Charlie Moore . In the following season he was regularly on the side of Moore or Silcock on the field and contributed with 19 season appearances to reach 13th place in the table. In the 1921/22 season Barlow played only three times, Manchester finished the season bottom of the table and rose to the Second Division . In October 1922 he left United and moved to the Manchester-based club New Cross .

Occasionally, in publications, Cyril Barlow is confused with C. Arthur Barlow , who was registered with Manchester United in April 1923 but remained without service and went to Stockport County in the summer of 1924 .
