Cyril Hegnauer (born January 29, 1921 in London ; † September 26, 2016 in Wädenswil ) was a Swiss legal scholar and professor of civil law.

Life

Cyril Hegnauer was born the middle of three children in 1921 in London after the war, the son of a Swiss and an Englishwoman. The family settled in Zurich in 1922. From 1939, Hegnauer studied law at the University of Zurich . In 1946 he received his doctorate in law under Zaccaria Giacometti with a thesis entitled "Language Law in Switzerland". Hegnauer was then an auditor at the District Court of Uster , before he worked for six years as a senior judge at the Zurich Commercial Court from 1948 and later in Civil Chamber III . In the same year he married Magdalena Schwarz. From this marriage there were three children.

Professional activities

After completing his law studies, Hegnauer embarked on a legal career. He wrote the chapter "Relationship" in the Bern Commentary on Family Law. In 1969 he was appointed to the Federal Commission of Experts for the Revision of Family Law. In 1970 he wrote his habilitation thesis at the University of Zurich and in 1973 was appointed full professor of civil law. In 1986 he retired.

Act

Hegnauer contributed to the extensive reorganization of child law in the 1970s and marriage law in the 1980s . He played a key role in the revision of family law and was considered one of the most recognized experts in Swiss naming law .

In the course of his career, Hegnauer published a large number of books, specialist articles, commentaries and commemorative publications.
