Cyrus Nowrasteh (born September 19, 1956 in Boulder , Colorado , USA ) is an American screenwriter and director with Iranian ancestors.

Life and accomplishments

Cyrus Nowrasteh is the son of a former advisor to the Shah of Persia . He grew up in Madison , Wisconsin . In 1974 he graduated from Madison West High School . Nowrasteh was on a tennis scholarship from New Mexico State University . He moved to the USC School of Cinematic Arts (formerly USC School of Cinema-Television ). In 1977 he graduated from this film school from the University of Southern California . In Los Angeles he gave tennis lessons and wrote scripts. 1985 Nowrasteh wrote his first published script for the series The Equalizer , in which Edward Woodward played the main character. Other television series followed. He was the author of the pilot episode of the drama agent series Nikita (1997). He is friends with Joel Nachbarow , the creator of this series, they met while working on The Equalizer .

Nowrasteh directed and scripted the television drama The Day Reagan Was Shot (2001) starring Richard Dreyfuss , which Oliver Stone was one of the producers. In 2002, the screenplay of The Day Reagan Was Shot and 2003 the screenplay of 10,000 Black Men Named George earned him a Literary Award at the PEN Center USA West Literary Awards .

Cyrus Nowrasteh is married to Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh, actually Elizabeth Giffen Nowrasteh, and has two children. His wife wrote the script for the 1997 thriller Under Pressure ( Bad Day On the Block ) starring Charlie Sheen .
