Cystomutilla ruficeps is a hymenoptera belonging tothe ant wasp family (Mutillidae).

features

The wasps have a body length of 4 to 7 millimeters (females) or 6 to 12 millimeters (males). The females have an orange-red head and thorax , their antennae and legs are dark brown. The occasionally punctiform structured abdomen is glossy black. The thorax is arched inwards at the front and back. At the first tergite there is a light hairy, triangular spot, at the end of the second and third tergite there are similar hair ties. The first tergite is clearly separated from the second. In the males, the head and thorax are black, the abdomen is orange-red. The antennae and legs are dark brown in color. The first and second tergite are at the end, the third completely lightly haired. The tegulae are small and rounded.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from Algeria and Spain to Greece and the Crimea and in the north of England via France , Switzerland , Austria , the Czech Republic and Slovakia . The larvae are parasitoids of Ectemnius rubicola and Pemphredon rugifer .
