The company Cytra was a shipyard in Darmstadt .

Company history

In 1872 a cooperage was founded in Darmstadt .

Cytra shipyard

Boat building began in the 1950s. The first boats were made of wood .

In 1963 the cooperage became the Cytra shipyard. In the same year series production of boats and yachts began . The company was run by the brothers Richard and Ernst Heim. The material wood was replaced by glass fiber reinforced plastic in the following years .

The Cytra shipyard also manufactured many accessories and interior fittings for the boats and yachts itself. The Cytra shipyard was located on Pallaswiesenstrasse in Darmstadt. In total, over 900 boats and yachts were built. There were more than ten different types of boats. The range of types ranged from 10 ft long rowing boats to 48 ft long luxury yachts .

Branch

At that time there was a branch in Darmstadt . In the Branch were among other plastic constructions for SUV from Mercedes-Benz manufactured. In addition, plastic slides were built for swimming pools and playgrounds .

The end

A sale of the company failed. The Heim brothers withdrew into private life. In 1998 the company was dissolved. The factory halls on Pallaswiesenstrasse still exist and are used by other companies today.
