The Czarna Hańcza ( Belarusian Чорная Ганча Tschornaja Hantscha; Lithuanian Juodoji Ančia ) is a left tributary of the Memel in the Polish Podlaskie Voivodeship and in the Belarusian Hrodsenskaja Woblasz .
The Czarna Hańcza forms the outflow of the Hańcza Lake in Podlachia. It flows mainly in an easterly direction. It passes the city of Suwałki and later flows through Lake Wigry , located in the Wigierski National Park . She crosses the border into Belarus. During the last few kilometers, a large part of the river water is channeled directly to the Memel. The actual course of the river makes an arc to the north and then to the east. The Marycha flows into the river on the left. For the last 500 m before it flows into the Memel, the Czarna Hańcza forms the border between Belarus and Lithuania .
The Czarna Hańcza has a length of 142 km. 108 km of this are on Polish territory. The catchment area covers 1916 km².
The river is popular for kayaking .
The Augustów Canal is a canal that connects the lower reaches of the Czarna Hańcza with the river system of Narew and Biebrza further to the south-west .
