history

The Danish seaman's church in foreign ports , subordinate to the Bishop of Copenhagen , set up a seaman's mission in Hamburg in 1875 . The first pastor was Georg Heden. A separate building was acquired in Bernhard-Nocht-Strasse in 1921. The building was destroyed in 1943 by the bombing of Operation Gomorrah during World War II.

After the end of the war, community work took place in the restored basement. Pastor Gustav A. Højlund was collecting money for a new church. The city of Hamburg made the property available. The new community center building was inaugurated on February 3, 1952. At that time there was not a single building between this church and the Hamburg Michel .
