history

The forerunner of the Christianskirken is the association "FREJA" founded in 1880 for the Danish traveling craftsmen. The Danes in Berlin organized themselves in 1909 in the association "Outside", which was founded by the Christian children and youth organization of Scandinavian craftsmen. In 1896, a Danish pastor held a service in Berlin for the first time. This took place at the YMCA at Wilhelmstrasse 34. In 1912, Danes founded their own church community in Berlin through Hans Tausens, belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Folke Church of Denmark. The services were initially held in the premises of the Bohemian Lutheran congregation, whose congregation hall was located at Neuenburger Strasse 3, near the Hallesches Tor . In 1924 the first Danish church was built in an expressionist style based on a design by Otto Bartning in a backyard in what was then Königgrätzer Straße, which is now called Stresemannstraße, near the Anhalter Bahnhof and consecrated in 1928 . It was after King X. Christian Christian's Church called. Since the property had to be sold to the Deutsche Bundespost in 1965 , the municipality acquired the property at Brienner Strasse 12, on which the ruins of the former old people's home of the Swedish Victoria parish were located. The current building was inaugurated on October 15, 1967. The Christian Church is the oldest Danish church founded outside Denmark. She works with the Danish seaman's church and the Danish Abroad Church founded in 1919. In 2004 they formed an organization.

Building

In addition to the church, the parish hall, a library, the servant's apartment and a small student dormitory are located on the property . The simple church hall is stylistically based on Scandinavian architecture. The bell from the old church hangs in the free-standing wooden belfry donated by Danish scouts .

Furnishing

The altar with the three-part altarpiece depicting the parable of the prodigal son , the altar utensils, the baptismal font and the pulpit were taken from the old church . The electronic organ was donated by Axel Springer in 1970 . It is intended to commemorate the Danish pastor and poet Kaj Munk , who was murdered by the Gestapo in 1944 .
