Dénes Zsigmondy

Dénes Zsigmondy (born April 9, 1922 in Budapest ; † February 15, 2014 ) was a Hungarian violinist and music teacher .

After attending grammar school, Zsigmondy studied art history and pedagogy at the University of Budapest and violin at the Music Academy. In 1944 he left Hungary and went to Salzburg, where he became known for his participation in the summer academy. He worked as a violin soloist and teacher in Europe and from 1959 also in the USA and Japan. He became known as a sought-after interpreter of the works of Mozart , Schubert and Beethoven , but above all the works of Béla Bartók , and premiered several compositions by Günter Bialas and Harald Genzmer . He made many recordings of sonatas for violin and piano with his wife, the pianist Anneliese Nissen .
