Dolmen da Lapa de Meruge

The Dólmen da Lapa de Meruge is a megalithic complex on the west bank of the Lagoa da Lapa de Meruge lake in the municipality of Carvalhal de Vermilhas , Vouzela district , in the Viseu district in Portugal .

Anta , Dolmen , Mámoa , Orca and Lapa are the common names in Portugal for the approximately 5000 megalithic structures that were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the Cardial or Imprint culture .

From 2016 to 2018 an archaeological excavation took place at Dólmen da Lapa da Meruge. First a trench was dug to the south, later the original passage was excavated. The passage and chamber were partially excavated deeper. The site is now partially covered, but can be viewed from a platform east of the dolmen.

Nearby are the Anta da Arca and the Dólmen da Malhada do Cambarinho .
