history

Finds and excavations prove a prehistoric settlement of the district area. In 1336 the district of Lafões , to which Vouzela belonged, received its first town charter from King D Dinis . In 1436 Vouzela became the seat of the district, replacing Vila do Banho (now São Pedro do Sul ). In the 16th century the seat returned to Vila do Banho and Lafões County was divided. In addition to the independent district of São Pedro do Sul, the independent district of Vouzela was created. After being reunited , the two districts were separated again in 1696 .

After being merged again in the meantime, the districts were finally separated in 1834 , and the district of Vouzela was significantly expanded by some municipalities that were affiliated in 1871 . The circle has existed in its current size since the last reorganization in 1973 .

traffic

Vouzela was connected to the nationwide railway network via its Ramal de Viseu station, and since the line was closed in 1990, the station, bridge and locomotives have been exhibited as souvenirs of the time.

The town is connected to the A25 motorway (here also E80 ) and its own exit (No. 13), 8 km away, via the N228 national road.

Vouzela is integrated into the national bus network of Rede Expressos .
