The Dôme de Rochefort is a 4015 m high mountain in the massif of the Grandes Jorasses . It is located on the border between France and Italy in the Mont Blanc group . The first ascent took place on August 12, 1881 by J. Eccles, Alphonse and Michel-Clément Payot .
The overall difficulty is rated as fairly difficult (ZS) today and II for climbing .
In René Magritte's surrealist painting “The Domain of Arnhem” (1938) he is depicted alienated as the head of an eagle.
