The bagpipes

Die Dödelsäcke (own spelling Die Dødelsäcke ) are a folk-punk band from Mülheim an der Ruhr with folklore influences.

Band history

The Dödelsäcke were founded in 1989 as a political punk band , which initially did not perform live, but only wanted to play songs they had written themselves in the rehearsal room. The band did play a few concerts as part of festivals, among others with the local heroes .

In 1993 the band was about to break up, but was continued by guitarist Mac Otter and drummer Mac Ströte. With the line-up, the musical direction also changed: the political orientation gave way to fun - or folk punk with not too serious and sometimes ironic content. There were more and more live concerts with bands like Normahl , Hass , Sphincter or the Muscles, Rasta Knast , BILDungslücke , Untergangskommando , Betontod , der Pakt, Die Strafe and foreign bands like Greenhouse AC and Eläkeläiset .

In 2005 the band members Mac Rabbit ( Tin Whistle ) and Mac Niko ( bagpipe ) joined the band. Bagpiper Mac Niko died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 4, 2006. So he no longer saw the release of the album “Herrengedeck”, on which he was involved and on which his bagpipes can be heard.

Mac Feed has been providing the Scottish sounds since January 2009 and Mac Micha became the eighth band member as a mandolin player . In 2015 there was a line-up change and MacGozer took over the guitar. On September 28, 2019, Die Dödelsäcke gave their last concert as part of the 30th anniversary of the band in the compressed air in Oberhausen .
