The Dusseldorf Congress GmbH (formerly Dusseldorf Congress Sports & Event GmbH) is a subsidiary of the city of Dusseldorf (50%) and the Fair Dusseldorf (50%), headquartered in Düsseldorf's Stockum .

overview

Düsseldorf Congress operates the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf and markets the halls of Messe Düsseldorf for corporate and special events. Every year the company organizes an average of more than 2,000 international congresses, company events, conferences and meetings as well as community events and TV productions in a wide variety of formats. In the more than 20-year history of the company, Düsseldorf Congress has recorded a total of around 60,000 events with more than 12 million visitors. With 75 employees, the company sees itself as a service provider for the organization and implementation of events.

founding

The city and trade fair subsidiary started business on January 1st, 1995 under the name CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf GmbH. The reason for founding the company was a structural expansion of the Düsseldorf Congress Center on the exhibition grounds. Up to now, trade fair-accompanying seminars and conferences had taken place here almost exclusively. The extension of the CCD Stadthalle to the existing CCD Süd, which began in 1993, doubled the conference capacity of the congress center to 7,500 people (with adjoining exhibition halls 15,000 people) and made the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf the third largest congress center in Germany. The CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf GmbH, which was founded after the renovation was completed, was supposed to exploit the new potential of the congress center and gain additional conferences and company events for the location.

Renaming and further development

After the management of the congress center by the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf GmbH was successfully organized, the company was also given the management of today's Mitsubishi Electric Hall in 2000 . At the same time, the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf GmbH was renamed DüsseldorfCongress Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH. In the following years, the city and trade fair subsidiary was able to continuously expand its portfolio. After the completion of the new exhibition hall 6 (formerly Rheinhalle ) in 2001, the entire halls of Messe Düsseldorf were added to the range of rooms and services offered by Düsseldorf Congress - since then the company has been marketing the halls outside of trade fair times for the implementation of large business events. The Robert-Schumann-Saal in the Museum Kunstpalast was also marketed for small company events from 2001 to 2014.

From 2004 to 2007, Module E at Düsseldorf Airport was also part of the event company's portfolio. The terminal was built after the airport fire and was used temporarily as a handling hall for passengers. Düsseldorf Congress then marketed Module E as an event location for three years until the terminal was demolished in autumn 2007 and the area was used for other purposes. The newly built Hall 8a on the Düsseldorf exhibition grounds has also been part of the company's space since 2005. In the same year, the event company also took over the management of what was then LTU arena (ESPRIT arena from 2009, now MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA). With the opening of the ISS DOME in September 2006, the management of another event location was added. In 2007, Düsseldorf Congress expanded the space with the addition of the new Hall 8b at Messe Düsseldorf. The Station Airport special event location followed in January 2009. The venue is part of the long-distance train station at Düsseldorf Airport. By separating it from the public train station area and installing all the necessary facilities, an area usable for events was created here at the end of 2008, which Düsseldorf Congress marketed until 2018. Since March 8, 2011, the CASTELLO Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf-Reisholz has also been part of the portfolio.

On January 1, 2014 the company was renamed and acted as Düsseldorf Congress Sport & Event GmbH. With the renaming, the full operational management of the ESPRIT arena was taken over and the sportAgentur Düsseldorf was integrated with all activities. The goals of the realignment included a greater use of synergies, a uniform market approach and a higher capacity utilization of the event venues.

Since August 1, 2018, the tasks of the previous Düsseldorf Congress Sport & Event GmbH have been performed in two different companies. The congresses / corporate events division, with the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf, CCD Ost and HORISUM (exhibition halls of Messe Düsseldorf), is located at Düsseldorf Congress GmbH. D.LIVE GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for the area of live entertainment / sports events with the Mitsubishi Electric HALLE, ESPRIT arena, the ISS DOME and CASTELLO Düsseldorf.
