use

The compound is used as a color developer for thermal papers and is produced by Nippon Soda . The Japanese company Shin Nisso Kako applied for a patent for the alternative substance to bisphenol A in 1983 .

In a study in Saxony (2015), D-8 was contained in 6.2% of thermal papers.

4- (4-Isopropoxyphenylsulfonyl) phenol was included in 2019 by the EU in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) as part of substance evaluation in the Community's rolling action plan ( CoRAP ). The effects of the substance on human health and the environment are re-evaluated and, if necessary, follow-up measures are initiated. The cause of the uptake of 4- (4-isopropoxyphenylsulfonyl) phenol was concerns about its properties as a potential endocrine disruptor . The reassessment is to be carried out by Belgium from 2021 .
