The German Lacrosse Association ( DLaxV for short ) is the umbrella organization of the German lacrosse clubs. It was launched in 1998 to support the spread of this sport across the region. Since it was founded, the number of lacrosse clubs in Germany has increased significantly and continues to grow. In 2018 the association had around 4400 members in 54 clubs.
The association is based in Munich . The association is a member of the European Lacrosse Federation and the World Federation World Lacrosse . The DLaxV is not yet part of the German Olympic Sports Confederation DOSB , but is aiming to be included.
The association promotes the further development of lacrosse sport in Germany, maintains the national teams and organizes the annual playoffs and the German championships.
After the first attempts at lacrosse in Germany, a men's national team was formed. The first games were instructive in nature, meanwhile the German teams are among the best in Europe (European champion 2001, runner-up 2004). At the 2006 World Cup in London (Ontario) , Canada , an 8th place (out of 21 teams) was achieved. At the World Cup in Manchester in July 2010 , the men's team lost the game for 5th place against hosts England with 9:14. The women's national team first took part in a world championship in 2001. Most recent success is a 9th place at the 2006 World Cup in Annapolis.
