DMZ train

The DMZ train ( English Peace Train ; Korean : 평화 열차) is a South Korean train of Korail . It has been traveling from Seoul to train stations in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on a schedule since 2014 .

history

Sentry Dora

The DMZ train has been running on the Gyeonguiseon railway line in north-western South Korea from Seoul Central Station to Dorasan Station since May 4, 2014 . The DMZ train crosses the Imjin River on the Imjingang Railway Bridge and travels from there to Paju in Gyeonggi-do Province near the DMZ, across from the North Korean city of Kaesong .

At Imjingang Station , passengers have to get off for counting and ID checks because Dorasan is the only station within the restricted access zone. At the terminus in Dorasan there are bus tours or tours to the Dorasan Peace Park , the third attack tunnel , the Dora sentry post .

Since August 1, 2014, the path of the train via the railway line Gyeongwon from Seoul central station along the river Hantan to the station Baengmagoji district Cheorwon of Gangwon-do Province . From there, the Battle of White Horse Square and the disused Woljeong-ri Railway Station can be viewed .

The train has three themed cars: “Peace Car” with the motif of a rusting steam train symbolizing the separation of the Korean peninsula, “Harmony Car” with red and blue figures holding hands and “Love Car” with paintings of adults and children from all over the world Globe shaking hands. Inside, the ceilings of the wagons are decorated with pinwheels , and the walls show photos of the DMZ on war, railroad and ecology.
