Mcm6 (in detail: DNA replication-licensing factor Mcm6 ) is a protein whose presence in the cell nucleus of eukaryotes is necessary to initiate DNA replication : After the G1 phase of cell division , Mcm6 binds to the chromatin ; this seems to be necessary to avoid multiple replication of the DNA.

In addition, Mcm6 is part of the MCM complex , which acts as a helicase and is responsible for untwisting the DNA before replication. One intron of the MCM6 - gene is in position as a promoter for the subsequent LCT gene ( lactase ); some variants of Mcm6 are therefore responsible for hereditary lactose intolerance , in particular for the large differences between European and non-European populations in this regard.

Proliferating Hodgkin's lymphoma cells and other cancer - cell lines have a high content of MCM6.
