The Dag Hammarskjöldsleden is after former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize -carrier Dag Hammarskjold (1905-1961) named 105 km long distance hiking trail in the Swedish province of Norrbotten County between Abisko and Nikkaluokta . It was laid out as a “modern pilgrimage ” and opened in 2004.
history
The trail was built at local, regional and national level in close cooperation with the Sami , the Luleå diocese of the Church of Sweden, the provincial administration of Norrbotten and the Swedish hiking association STF . It begins in Abisko and first leads through the Abisko National Park . The hiking trail follows the northernmost part of the Kungsleden for 72 km to the Singi Hut, from where it continues for another 33 km to Nikkaluokta.
particularities
- There are seven selected meditation spots along the way, each with a round stone in the middle. Various quotes from Dag Hammarskjöld in Swedish and Sami can be read on the stones to stop and think about during the hike.
- As with the Kungsleden, a winter route is also marked with sticks for the Dag Hammarskjöldsleden.
