Daga ( Dzongkha : དར་ དཀར་ ), also written Darkar , is one of fifteen Gewogs (blocks) of the Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag in central Bhutan . Daga Gewog is in turn divided into five Chiwogs (constituencies). According to the 2005 census, 1347 people live in this weight on an area of 344 km² in eight villages or hamlets in 152 households.
The Gewog is located in the south of the Wangdue Phodrang district on the east bank of the Puna Tsang Chhu , extends over altitudes between 800 and 2700 m and is 86% covered with forest. The climate in Daga Gewog is dry and subtropical with annual rainfall between 800 and 900 mm. The average temperatures in the warmest months of June and July are 36 ° C, while the coldest months of January and February are between 10 and 12 ° C.
The population of Daga Gewog earned their livelihood mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry. Rice, sugar cane and bamboo are grown. Poultry farming and animal husbandry for milk, cheese and butter production are also important.
In addition to the Gewog administration, state institutions have two stations for basic health care ( BHU, Basic Health Unit ) and three medical advice centers ( Outreach Clinic ) as well as an office for the development of renewable natural resources ( RNR, Renewable Natural Resource Center ). The schools in the Gewog include two primary schools with around 230 students.
There are a total of six Buddhist temples ( Lhakhangs ) in this Gewog , which are state, community or private property. Cultural monuments include the Uma Choling Goenpa Monastery , the Uma Norbugang Lhakhang temple, founded in the 16th century, and the Gebaykha Lhakhang , Taksha Norbuding Lhakhang and Wogay Lhakhang temples .
