Dagmar Kift

Dagmar Kift ( February 1, 1954 - April 23, 2020 ) was a German historian .

Life

Kift studied history history , German studies , sociology and law at the Free University of Berlin and history at St Anne's College and St Antony's College of Oxford University . In 1989 she did her doctorate at the Free University with a thesis on “Workers' Culture in Social Conflict. The English Music Hall in the 19th Century ”. From 1987 to 2019 she worked at the LWL industrial museum. As a scientific consultant and curator, she was there a. a. Project manager for the permanent exhibition of the Zeche Zollern museum in Dortmund (opening 1999), the exhibition “Aufbau West. New beginning between displacement and economic miracle ”(2005) and the EU project“ Work with Sounds (2013–2015); she also worked on the FRAUEN.ruhr.GESCHICHTE Internet portal. From 2013 until her retirement in 2019, she was in charge of the museum's scientific service and was deputy director. Until 2017 she was a board member of WORKLAB, the international association for workers' museums, and until 2019 a member of the board of the Fritz-Hüser- Gesellschaft.

Kift was married to British writer Roy Kift until 2014 ; they had two daughters together.

research

Kift researched the European social and cultural history of the industrial age. Her work and publication focuses were the workers , youth and district culture , mining , women's and leisure history as well as the topics of migration and cultural diversity .
