The Dahan ( Chinese 大漢 溪 Dàhànxī , Taiwanese Tāi-hán-khe) is a 135 km long river in the north of the island of Taiwan .
Course and meaning
The Dahan rises on the northern slope of Mount Pintian in Hsinchu County and crosses the area of the cities of Taoyuan and New Taipei , whereupon it joins the Xindian to the Tamsui River on the border with Taipei city . In Taoyuan it is dammed up to form the Shimen Reservoir and plays an important role in the irrigation and drinking water supply of northern Taiwan. The Ronghua Dam is located on the upper reaches of the Dahan , the main purpose of which is to prevent debris from entering the Shimen Reservoir.
