Bridge over the Dahmer Canal

The Dahmer Canal is an artificially created waterway in the valley of the Westpeene between the Malchiner See and the town of Malchin in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The canal , which was completed in 1876 on the initiative of the then sugar factory in Dahmen , is now the main outflow of Lake Malchin and flows into the Peene Canal north of Malchin . It is around 7.5 kilometers long and runs almost in a straight line in a north-easterly direction, before taking a south -easterly course in the north of the city for a short stretch parallel to the railway line between Güstrow and Neubrandenburg .

The Dahmer Canal can no longer be used for inland navigation , but is used not only by anglers but also for water hikes , as it, together with the Peene Canal, enables access by canoe from Lake Kummerow to Lake Malchiner.
