Dajuan Marquett Wagner (born February 4, 1983 in Camden , New Jersey ) is a retired American basketball player who played in the NBA between 2002 and 2006 .

Career

High school and college

Wagner was considered one of the most talented basketball players in the country during his high school years. He scored 100 points during a game in his high school. In his final high school season, Wagner scored 42.5 points per game. He won the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award for best high school basketball player in the country at the end of the season . Experts compared him to Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers . After high school, Wagner moved to the University of Memphis , where he played under John Calipari . After a year in college, he signed up for the NBA draft .

NBA

In the 2002 NBA Draft , Wagner was selected 6th by the Cleveland Cavaliers . In his rookie season, he scored a respectable 13.4 points per game, but only hit 37% off the field. However, the following two seasons did not go well. In his third year, Wagner only played 11 regular season games due to numerous injuries and scored 4.0 points per game. Because of this, his contract in Cleveland was not renewed.

It took a year before he was able to fully recover from his injuries. In 2006 he made another comeback with the Golden State Warriors . However, he only played one game before he was bought out of the contract. In 2007 he signed a contract with the Polish first division club Asseco Prokom Gdynia , for which he was active until 2008.

Today he runs a gym in Cherry Hill , New Jersey, among other things .

Personal

Dajuan Wagner is the son of the former professional basketball player Milt Wagner . He is also the cousin of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist , who is also a professional basketball player in the NBA.
