Damir Skenderovic

Damir Skenderovic (born January 22, 1965 in Dortmund ) is a Swiss historian . He is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Freiburg .

Life

Damir Skenderovic studied history , anthropology and communication science at the University of Freiburg i.Üe. After completing his licentiate , he was a graduate assistant at the contemporary history seminar there. From 1997 to 1999 he was a research associate in the research project “Racism and Politics in the Nineties” of the priority program (SPP) “Future Switzerland”. In 1999 and 2001/02 he was a scholarship holder of the Swiss National Science Foundation . From 1998 to 2002 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for European Studies at New York University . In 2004 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate and in 2010 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg i.Üe. From 2006 to 2010 he was a lecturer (senior assistant or lecturer) in migration history at the Institute for Communication Research at the University of Lucerne . In 2009 he became associate professor and in 2011 full professor for general and Swiss contemporary history at the University of Freiburg i.Üe. In 2010 he was a visiting scholar at the Social Science Research Center in Berlin . From 2009 to 2013 he was responsible for the contemporary history study area and member of the council of the Department of Historical Sciences and from 2013 to 2015 Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. He led several research projects, acted as a reviewer and appeared as an expert on right-wing extremism . He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the Yearbook for Islamophobia Research .
