Daniel Hoffard "Dan" Kennedy (born July 22, 1982 in Fullerton , California ) is a former American football goalkeeper .

Career

Youth and college

Kennedy attended El Dorado High School in Placentia, California . Here he also played soccer on the school team. After graduating, he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara , where he majored in communication studies and minor in sports science . During this time he played for UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and scored several team records, including the record for most games without conceding goals. In 2004 he was with the team after a lost penalty shootout against the Indiana University team runner-up in the Division I Men's College Cup.

While in college, he played for the Orange County Blue Stars in the USL Premier Development League .

Career as a professional

Kennedy was selected by the MetroStars in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft . With the team from New Jersey he was not used in his first season as a professional. He then moved to the Puerto Rico Islanders , who were then playing in the USL First Division . He was quickly able to earn a regular place in goal and was named the best young player in the United Soccer Leagues for his achievements .

After two years in Puerto Rico, Kennedy moved to Chile to Municipal Iquique . Here, too, he got a regular place.

On April 9, 2008, Kennedy moved back to the USA and became part of the CD Chivas USA . He stayed there for the next seven years. He was named the team's best player in 2011. Kennedy was also temporarily captain of the Chivas. After the team was disbanded at the end of the season, he was selected and committed in the MLS Dispersal Draft 2014 by FC Dallas .
