The Danckelmannstraße is a street in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg . It begins on Gardes-du-Corps-Straße and runs south to Kaiserdamm . The street is already drawn in on a development plan for the area around Berlin from 1862 ( Hobrecht plan ), but there is no development.

The following streets cross: Knobelsdorffstraße , Seelingstraße , Christstraße and Horstweg . The road is traffic-calmed between Horstweg and Gardes-du-Corps-Straße .

Surname

The previously unnamed road was on April 14, 1885 after the politicians Eberhard von Danckelmann named (1643-1722, correct spelling with only one "n" at the end), who is also a tutor of the first Prussian king, Frederick I was.

Development

Building of the former Kaiser brewery
Higher Girls School III (Upper School Center for Law)

As can be seen from a development plan from 1930, the adjoining areas of Danckelmannstrasse were largely built on between 1862 and 1889.

Some of the more recent, mostly listed buildings are:

  • Danckelmannstrasse 28 (1906–1908):
Former Municipal Higher Girls' School III , today Upper School Center for Law
  • Danckelmannstraße 9 (1907):
Building of the former Kaiser brewery (from 1910 part of the Engelhardt brewery )
The Charlottenburger Pilsener was brewed here until 1998 . Now the building complex is used as a commercial park.
  • Danckelmannstraße 46/47 (1907–1908):
Single home for men, built according to a design by the architect Rudolf Walter
. The single home was intended to curb the sleeping population. Today the building is used as a student residence.
  • Danckelmannstrasse 23 and 39 (1907–1910):
Houses in the residential complex Charlottenburg II

In addition, the buildings Danckelmannstrasse 13-20, 40-42 and 48-51 are listed as an ensemble as well as the individual monuments Danckelmannstrasse 1, 10 and 21.

Goat farm

Goat farm

In the middle of the street on the western side you will find the entrance to the Charlottenburger Ziegenhof at number 16 . This is a green area with a children's playground and an enclosure for goats as well as a beekeeping facility, which were set up in the gutted apartment block 128 as part of the careful urban renovation by the architect Hardt-Waltherr Hämer . At the end of the 1970s there was an active squatter scene here , which actively supported this project and thus prevented the planned full gutting. The goat yard and open space are supported by the block initiative 128 e. V. and other interested fellow citizens. The planting of the large area is varied.

The residents

Danckelmannstrasse is a street in the Klausenerplatz district. This location, which the nearby Sophie-Charlotten-Straße resident Heinrich Zille often depicted in his drawings as “Berliner Milljöh”, was mainly home to craftsmen, small employees and workers. The single home also points to the desolate housing situation of the workers in this area (see above). In 1999 a citizens' alliance was founded to improve the living environment and to provide information. The neighborhood has been severely affected by gentrification since the late 2000s .
