Daniel "Dan" Idema (born August 12, 1984 in Delta , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and now a professional poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Ice hockey career

Idema was active as an ice hockey player from 2001 to 2005 and played during this time for the clubs Medicine Hat Tigers , Surrey Eagles , Geleen Smoke Eaters and Saginaw Spirit .

Poker career

Career

Idema has been taking part in renowned live tournaments since 2007 .

Idema won the main tournament of the British Columbia Poker Championships in Richmond in November 2007 for a prize of more than 400,000 Canadian dollars . In June 2010 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came three times in the money. He received his highest prize money of 260,000 US dollars for second place in the World Cup of variant Limit Hold'em . He won the same tournament at the 2011 WSOP and secured a prize money of almost $ 380,000 and a bracelet . At the end of January 2012, Idema finished eighth at the main event of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne for 125,000 Australian dollars . In June 2013, he prevailed at an event in Seven Card Stud Hi / Lo at the 2013 WSOP and received his second bracelet and around $ 185,000. Two years later he secured his third bracelet with a tournament victory in the mixed variant HORSE at the 2015 WSOP and received a prize of more than 260,000 US dollars.

Overall, Idema has earned over two million US dollars with poker in live tournaments.
