Daniel Lagus

Daniel Lagus (* 1618 in Schönberg , Moravia ; † May 30, 1678 in Ohra near Danzig ) was a German theologian and scientist.

Life

Daniel Lagus was the son of the Protestant theologian Gregor Lagus and the daughter Esther of the Schönberg mayor Christoph Danielis. In 1623 the family had to flee to Kolberg before the Counter Reformation . All five of Daniel's siblings perished "at the hands of the enemy".

He studied mathematics and natural sciences at the universities in Frankfurt / Oder and Königsberg . After completing this course, Lagus was appointed as a lecturer at the Academic Gymnasium Danzig and he held this office until 1658. In 1646 he enrolled as a Danzig professor at the University of Rostock .

1653 Lagus was at the University of Greifswald to Dr. theol. doctorate and just five years later he qualified as full professor of theology . In the following year he gave back all offices and privileges and from then on lived extremely secluded in Danzig and later in Ohra. There he wrote theological and scientific works until the end of his life.

Daniel Lagus died in Ohra near Danzig in 1678 at the age of about 60.
