Daniel Carlos Martínez Villamil (born February 23, 1957 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan engineer and member of the Frente Amplio .

In 2015, Martínez was elected Mayor of Montevideo.

Martínez ran in the June 30, 2019 primaries and was elected as the sole candidate for the presidential election. Graciela Villar is his runner-up.

In the first ballot on October 27, 2019, Daniel Martínez received the most votes with 39%, followed by Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, who got just under 29%. On November 24, in the runoff election of the presidential election, he received 47.51 percent and was thus defeated by his rival Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou , who was elected the new President of Uruguay with 48.71 percent of the vote.
