Johann Daniel Morian (born July 9, 1811 in Hamborn near Duisburg; † August 12, 1887 there ) was a German entrepreneur from Duisburg - Neumühl .

Life

Along with August Thyssen , Wilhelm Theodor Grillo and Franz Haniel, Daniel Morian was one of the most important, albeit lesser-known, people in the industrialization of Duisburg and the "coal fever" that began in the mid-19th century.

Morian was also involved in the construction of the first railway through the Ruhr area, the main line of the Cologne-Minden Railway Company . From 1844 to 1847 he and Heinrich Dickmann cut down the Carlsbusch in Alstaden (today Oberhausen-Alstaden). The Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft needed the wood for the route construction.

In the years 1850 to 1853 he tried to mine the Oberhausen colliery with business partners, including Heinrich Dickmann . Also at the establishment of the mine Roland Morian took part in Oberhausen-Dümpten with Heinrich Dickmann. In 1856 he co-founded the company Arenbergsche AG for mining and smelting operations , which operated the Prosper I, Prosper II, Prosper III and Arenberg mines in Bottrop . Morian has served on the company's board of directors from its inception.

Morian founded the Neu-Duisburg colliery in Duisburg- Neudorf around 1858 . But it wasn't until 1865 that Morian came across usable coal during one of the many test wells. The Hamborn union was co-founded by him in 1867. Due to the establishment of the empire, it was renamed the German Emperors' Union in 1871 . The first coal was mined in 1874. From 1871 to 1883 Morian was the head of the mine.

In 1873 the bridge building company and metal foundry Morian & Wilms was established opposite the Neumühler Bahnhof (today: Am Inzerfeld and Duisburger Straße). Finally, in 1864, Morian also acquired the new mill on the Emscher (in Hamborn ), which was probably built in 1353 . The mill, after which the Neumühl district of Duisburg is named, was later also called Moriansmühle .
